If you’re an avid country music listener, you’ve probably heard the infectious “Greatest Love Story” by LANCO. A smash hit of 2018, the band is truly grateful for their unexpected success. A song that catches the attention of all music lovers, “Greatest Love Story” showcases the band’s sweet sound that gives each listener a sense of nostalgia. Forming in 2013 and consisting of Brandon Lancaster (lead singer and lyricist), Chandler Baldwin (bass guitar), Jared Hampton (keyboards), Tripp Howell (drums) and Eric Steedly (guitar), the band is more than just a group of musicians that write songs, they’re a family working collectively to create music that resonates with fans.
"A song like 'Greatest Love Story' defines the reason we are in country music," says Lancaster. "We all relate to it. Anyone who knows about finding love or losing love, there is a piece of their story in the song. We've already seen how much it impacts people, and it means the world." The band’s capability to incorporate storytelling in their songwriting gives the country band an edge. Influenced by artists that rely heavily on telling stories like John Mellencamp, LANCO invites their audience to listen not only to the music, but also the words. The band’s southern roots, sweet twang, and compelling melodies makes their sound irresistible.
From playing small bars and venues, to acquiring sets at Bonnaroo and touring with Dierks Bentley, the band has captured the attention of audiences around the world. Growing up in close to Nashville, Tennessee, lead singer, Lancaster, was constantly consumed by country music. In fact, it was hard to avoid. As a teenager, he began writing songs and discovered the magic of vinyl and diverse artists like Bob Dylan, Keith Urban, and Kings of Leon. He instantly fell in love with breaking down music and analyzing lyrics with powerful melodies.
After meeting in college and jamming in their freetime, the group decided to form LANCO with common ground and love for country music. The up-and-coming band continued to work their day jobs. Lancaster worked concessions at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Spotting Jay Joyce at a Keith Urban & Little Big Town concert, he approached the record producer and expressed his appreciation for Joyce’s work in the music industry. Little did Lancaster know, this was the moment that would change his life forever. Joyce invited the band into the studio and after hearing their talent, pitched the idea for a record. Without a booking agency, manager, or record label, LANCO agreed and started the process for their first EP.
With the release of their debut album “Hallelujah Nights” in January of 2018, the band has reached numerous accomplishments, including, reaching number one on top country albums chart, billboard emerging artist chart, and digital country songs chart. With the release of “Greatest Love Story,” the band reached number one on country radio and was nominated for CMA & ACM Vocal Group of the Year, ACM New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year, and AMA Favorite Duo or Group (Country).
